What's That Wednesday - Clipboard

Hello and welcome to another edition to What's That Wednesday! Today I would like to share a project I made a few weeks ago. On one the forum websites I frequent, Creative Soup, we had a launch party with lots of challenges and games. One of the challenges was to alter a clipboard. I didn't have a clipboard so I made my own.

I save cardboard from paper packs, CM page protector packs and whatever else I get that has the thick cardboard in the packaging. I took one of those pieces and cut to the size I wanted. I then covered the cardboard with my selected paper.

I also have a stash of items I have found while browsing the $1 aisle and $1 bin at Target and Michael's. Some of the things I usually pick up are notepads and post it note pads. I pulled one of each from my stash and used a decorative binder clip to clip the note pad on and made a pocket to hold the post it note pad. I punched a hole in the top left corner with my Crop-A-Dile II Big Bite punch to tie ribbon to hold a pen.

The best thing is all the paper came from my scraps.

Next time you see a project you want to try, first think about what you already have that you can use to make it or something similar.

Thanks for stopping by!

Michele

Critter Monday!

Good Monday morning! Monday means it's time for another Critter Sketch challenge. The Stamping Boutique is sponsoring the challenges for January. Tracey has lots of fabulous images so head over there and check them out.

Now onto the challenge. This week Melanie gave us a DOUBLE CHALLENGE! She wants to see distressing and circles. I chose to do a scrapbook layout for this challenge.
I stamped the blue base with a soccer ball stamp (there's my circles) and versamark ink. The dp and yellow paper were cut with my Cricut. Now for my distressing part. I tore a strip of white paper on both sides and sponged the torn edges with black ink. I also distressed the black photo mats' edges with my Heidi Swapp distressing tool. Here is a closeup to show the distressing.

I used last week's sketch from Get Your Sketch On for the layout. Since I couldn't post this page until today, it didn't get entered in last week's challenge but I did another page. You can see it in my previous post.

Be sure to check out the other Critter DT posts.

Thanks for stopping by! Come back Wednesday for a new What's That Wednesday!

Hugs,
Michele

GYSO #3 - Splash!

I created this page for the 3rd challenge at Get Your Sketch On. I had actually made another page for the challenge but after I was finished, realized I couldn't use it because it was for my Critter DT post for tomorrow (Monday). So be sure to check back tomorrow and see that layout also.

This page is the first digital page I have done in a while. I even did it in Photoshop Elements which is HUGE for me. My oldest daughter had an audition today for a summer dance program at her ballet school. The audition is more to give them practice in auditioning than whether or not they will make it in the program. I knew I would be there for at least a couple of hours (ended up being four!) so I took my laptop and decided to work on some digi stuff. I am pretty pleased with how this page turned out. Especially considering that I was limited in what I had available on my laptop, didn't have my Photoshop reference book and no Wi-Fi access.
Everything is from Shabby Princess. The paper is from the set called Sweet Serenity set and the alpha is from Express Yourself.

(update: this page made Top 5 at Get Your Sketch On!)

Thanks for stopping by and visiting.

Hugs,
Michele

Feature Friday - CricutSearch.com

Hello and welcome to Feature Friday! Today I have a wonderful site to share with you that I, myself, just recently discovered. It is CricutSearch.com.

This site is amazing! If you own a Cricut, whether it is the baby bug, Expression, Cake or Imagine, you will want to visit and bookmark this website. This family created website has every image on every Cricut cartridge catalogued into a searchable database. Now, I know you can do a keyword search in Design Studio and on the Gypsy but, it's not very good. I have searched for something on Design Studio and know I have a cartridge with the image and none of my cartridges show up in the list given. CricutSearch.com is wonderful! Instead of a list of cartridges that have the searched image, you will see the exact page in the cartridge's handbook and you are given the page number and keypad number.

I have 32 cartridges and it impossible to remember everything that is on every cartridge I own. I have had instances where an image came up on a cartridge I have but didn't remember it. Trust me, don't spend all your time looking through your cartridges for something. Simply go to CricutSearch.com and find it in minutes and get the most out of your Cricut cartridges and your time. You may even find some hidden gems on your cartridges!

Hugs,
Michele

GYSO sketch #2

I was finally able to sit down and work on a page for sketch #2 at Get Your Sketch On. Here is the sketch for this week:

Since I crop my photos before I have them printed it was a little difficult to find photos I could work with for the sketch. I finally decided upon some photos of my youngest dd and her best friend. The 52 week challenge on the scrapbook goal thread on SCS was to use lots of flowers on your layout. Yep, I've got that covered! The challenge at the Scrap and Stamp blog was "anything goes', it just needs to be a layout and have at least one stamp on it. Yep, got that too!

Stamping is not something I normally do on my layouts just like using my Cricut for cards is not something I normally do. This year I would like to try and break that habit. I stamped the white cs with the border in SU Vintage Vogue set in Pear Pizazz and the floral swirl in each corner in Blushing Bride. I also stamped the F in Pear Pizazz and cut it out. There are three little butterflies in some of the flower centers. I first stamped the floral swirl in Blushing Bride and then punched the butterflies out. I did the same thing with the title before cutting it out with Alphalicious cartridge.

This LO also qualifies for the following challenges:
Stamp Something: anything goes but must be stamped
CES Challenge: #19 no designer papers
Whoopsie Daisy: no designer papers
Stampin B's: use die cuts

(update: this page made Top 5 at Get Your Sketch On!)

Supplies:
paper: CM
ink: SU Blushing Bride, Pear Pizazz, CM brown pen
stamps: SU Vintage Vogue
other: CM paper flowers, Cricut cartridges Accent Essentials (scallop circles) & Alphaliscious, Jillie Bean Soup journal sprout, CM butterfly punch, Me & My Big Ideas (big butterfly), misc gems

What's That Wednesday

Hello crafty blogging friends! I am so glad you stopped by today. This is the first of what I hope is many regular posts for I am calling What's That Wednesday. Every other Wednesday I will post a project that I used a non-paper crafting item on. I love going thru the $1 aisles/bins at Target and Michaels' and going thru the Dollar Tree to see what I can find and how it can be transformed.

I was recently browsing through the $1 bins at M's and came across these big flowers. I thought "Wow, that would be great on a card!'. Aren't they fabulous!

The flowers are actually pins. The pins are painted to match the flowers. Even better because I now have two embellishments!

And . . . here is what I did with it! I cut a 12x12 sheet of SU So Saffron into 6x12 so I could have a 6x6 size card. I'm loving that size! I embossed a pink piece of paper I had in my scrap stash and sanded it to bring some of the white out. I added a So Saffron ribbon around the card. I used the pink safety pin from the flower to attach the bunny button and tag to the ribbon. By the way, those tags are old SU ones. Points for me on using old stuff!

So, what do you think? I challenge you to look at things differently because you never know what gem you are passing up.

If you have an idea or a project using something different, drop me an email (fmtinsley@att.net).

This card qualifies for and is submitted to the following challenges:
Sketch and Stash Challenge: #52 sketch & something new/neglected
Moving Along with the Times: #80 old (tags) & new (flower)
Phindy's Place: #37 distressing (sanded embossed paper)
If the Shoe Fits: #61 Ribbon
Speedy the Cat's Challenge: #37 embossing
Simply Create: #34 embossing
Catch the Bug: embossing
Craft Your Passion: #40 Tie one on
Whoopsi Daisy: no designer paper
Delightful Challenges: buttons (the bunny is a button)

Tweet Blue Bird

Hello everyone! I have been able to get into my craft room a little more and have lots of digi stamps to color. Here is card I made with a Deedee's image - Valentine Tweet.

I used the sketch from Sweet Stop (SSS90) as my inspiration. I adapted it to a 6x6 card though. I have done a couple of cards in this size and really like it. I just need to find envelopes for them. I used my copics again which are another thing I am hooked on. I think I am getting the hang of them.

This card is also for the following challenges:

Stamp Something: digi day
Cute Card Thursday: #146 Out with the old (my dp)
CES Challenge: All creatures great & small
Aly's Sunday Challenge: wings
Kaboodle Doodles: #49 use a digi
Fab 'n' Funky: #54 Anything Goes
Craft Your Days Away: #11 anything goes
Our Creative Corner: inspiration photo (bird on branch)

Head over and check them out. Now, onto this week's challenge. Melanie gave us a sketch to work with which was created by our very own DT member, Colleen.

I immediately thought it would make a fabulous scrapbook layout! Here is what I came up with.

The butterfly dp is from a secret sister kit I received. The little green butterflies an white flowers are some I got at M's in the $1 bins. The rest of the paper is from HL.
Be sure and check out the rest of the Critter DT's projects! You are sure to get lots of inspiration!

Feature Friday blog: Get Your Sketch On

Hello to all my wonderful blogging crafting friends across the world! Welcome to the very first Feature Friday post. I mentioned I wanted to do a couple of new things with my blog this year and this is one of them. My plan is that each Friday I will feature a wonderfully amazing blog. The blogs will include individuals personal blogs, product blogs, informational blogs and any other type of blog I find interesting, helpful and creative but always related to crafting.

Now I would like to introduce you to the very first Feature Friday blog: Get Your Sketch On. GYSO is a brand new blog that will feature scrapbook layout sketch challenges. I love sketches! To me, that is half the work of a layout so if someone else has created a sketch that's super! I can then focus my creativity on paper and embellishment selection and telling the story. The first sketch challenge is up (here)and it is fabulous. Thanks to this great sketch I was able to complete this page:
To celebrate their "opening" of the new blog, Get Your Sketch On is having a contest. They are giving away a $100 gift certificate to a store of you choice! How fabulous is that! You can find the details to this fabulous contest here. If you decide to enter the contest, be sure to include my name (Michele Tinsley) in your blog post.

LO supplies:
paper: CM paper
Embellies: CM paper flowers, Cuttin Up Cricut cartridge
other: CM cutting system, CM decorative trimmer, dimensionals

Thanks for stopping by!

Project 365 has begun!

This year one of my craft goals is to do a Project 365 album. For those that don't know what this is it is basically a snapshot of the year day by day. You take a photo a day and journal a little about that day or particular photo. Of course, I completely forgot to take a picture on day 1 but I had been scrapping and participating in the launch of a new scrapbook forum called Creative Soup so have some photos of pages and other stuff done. I also just discovered through Creative Soup another brilliant option in place of photos. Jessica Bree started a blog called Project: Life Memorabilia. It is all about using, well, memorabilia from your daily life to document it. Things such as menus, labels, receipts and postcards.

Why do this you ask? For me, it's about documenting every day life. Face it, not every day has something exciting or fantabulous happening but every day IS special and should be celebrated.

Why not join me and let's celebrate life together!

Hugs,
Michele
